Tattoo removal Treatment Overview

Laser tattoo removal treatment

During your free consultation, our clinicians will review your tattoo and provide an estimate of the number of treatments and cost per session. While we aim to give you a clear understanding upfront, the actual number of treatments required for tattoo removal can vary based on individual factors.Skin will be numbed before treatment, for an hour, and treatment time will vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Commonly, treatment may take 15-60 minutes.

What To Expect Before Tattoo removal

To prepare for laser tattoo removal, avoid unprotected sun exposure and fake tanning products for at least two weeks before your appointment. On the day of treatment, avoid wearing contact lenses, make-up, valuable jewellery, or perfumes. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

How To Prepare for Tattoo removal Treatment

Please avoid unprotected sun exposure and fake tanning products for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to treatment. Do not wear contact lenses, valuable jewellery or make-up to the clinic on the day of treatment, including lipstick and mascara. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Tattoo removal Aftercare

After your cosmetic tattoo removal or eyebrow tattoo removal, an ice pack will be provided to soothe the skin and reduce swelling. We recommend applying ice packs for up to 10 minutes every hour or two for the rest of the day. If your face has been treated, sleep with your head elevated to minimise swelling.

You can shower or bathe as normal using your regular products. Make-up can be worn, but avoid applying perfume to the treated area. Vaseline can be applied 2-3 times a day, for 3 days, to assist with healing and use SPF 50+ sunscreen until the skin has fully healed. If you're planning to be outdoors, keep the treated area covered or wear a hat to protect your skin.

Tattoo removal FAQs

What does tattoo removal treatment feel like?

The sensation of laser tattoo removal varies from person to person, depending on the area being treated and the darkness of the tattoo. Many patients describe the feeling as being flicked by an elastic band. To minimise discomfort, we apply numbing cream before treatment and can provide additional analgesia if needed. Our goal is for patients to feel little discomfort during their laser treatment.

What is the cost of tattoo removal treatment?

The cost of tattoo removal starts at $180 for a 1cm-sized tattoo. The total cost depends on the size and complexity of the tattoo, and the number of treatments required. Our experienced team will provide advice during your consultation to help you understand the investment needed to achieve the best possible results.

What are the possible risks of tattoo removal treatment?

As with any laser treatment, there are some risks associated with tattoo removal, though lasers are considered very safe treatments for skin conditions.

Potential Risks Include:

  • Post-treatment redness, swelling, or a mild sunburn-like sensation.  This is normal and temporary.
  • Hypo-pigmentation (lightening of the skin). This is very uncommon.
  • Hyper-pigmentation (darkening of the skin), particularly in darker skin types.
  • Rarely, blisters, infection, or scarring may occur.

Our clinicians will discuss any risks during your consultation to ensure you’re fully informed before starting your treatment.
