Walter-Nolan multi-laser procedure Treatment Overview

What are walter nolan procedures?

The Walter Nolan procedures are our signature treatments, pioneered by our clinic founder, Dr Jim Walter, and our skin laser physician, Dr Marianne Nolan, from their extensive experience in treating laser-responsive skin conditions. The procedures can involve two, three or four lasers, depending on the combination of issues being treated. Treatments are uniquely tailored to each patient’s skin needs. Treatments can be applied to the face, neck, decolletage and hands. This is our most popular skin rejuvenation procedure. Laser combinations are available to address brown pigmentation, redness and red-coloured lesions, raised lesions (moles, warts, skin tags), sun damage and loss of skin lustre.

What To Expect Before Walter-Nolan multi-laser procedure

Treatment will initially involve a consult with our dermatologist, who will review your skin and determine the best treatment option for your skin rejuvenation goals. In most cases, if the Walter Nolan procedure is determined to be the best treatment option, you can have your initial laser treatment on the same day.Numbing cream will be applied for approximately an hour, while you wait in one of our comfortable, private waiting rooms. You’ll then receive your laser treatment, which, depending on the size of the area being treated and the laser being used,  can take 30-90 minutes. Following treatment, you’ll return to your waiting room, with an ice pack to apply to the treated area. You may remain in your waiting room until you feel comfortable to leave.

We recommend an ice pack be applied to the treated area 5-10 minutes every 1-2 hours, for the rest of the day, to soothe the skin and minimise swelling. Vaseline can be applied 2-3 times a day, until raw lesions heal.It is advisable to sleep with your head elevated, if your face has been treated, to reduce swelling. You may shower or bathe as usual, using your regular products.Make-up can be worn once lesions have healed. Avoid using perfume on treated areas until they have healed. Treated areas may be shaved gently the following day. Alcohol, strenuous exercise and activity should be avoided for the rest of the day. Walter-Nolan multi-laser procedure FAQs

What will these treatments feel like?

The sensation of lasers and IPL treatments varies from patient to patient, and on the area being treated. Commonly, it feels like being flicked with an elastic band. In addition to numbing cream applied before treatment, oral analgesia can also be taken. Our goal is that patients feel minimal discomfort during procedures.

What are the costs of the Walter-Nolan multi-laser procedure?

The cost of the procedure depends on the area being treated and the number of treatments required, which will be determined during your consult with the dermatologist. As a guide, the cost of treatment starts at $850.

What are the possible risks of a Walter Nolan Procedure?

As with any laser treatment, some risk does exist, though lasers are considered very safe treatments for skin conditions.

  • Post treatment discomfort, much like the sensation of a mild sunburn tingle, redness and oedema (swelling) are not uncommon. This is normal and temporary.
  • Hypo-pigmentation (fading of the colour of skin). This is very uncommon.
  • Hyper-pigmentation (darkening of the colour of the skin). May occur in darker skin types. The dermatologist will consider whether this is a risk for your skin during your consult.
  • Indentation (for vein treatments). Uncommon and only occurring with larger veins.
  • Purpura (bruising). Uncommon, and will fade like any bruise, lasting up to 10 days.
  • Blisters. Very uncommon.
  • Infection. Very rare.
  • Scarring. Extremely rare.
  • Temporary stripes of untreated pigmented areas in between rectangles of treated areas. This is required, as it is important not to overlap sections of laser treatment. These will be removed with the next treatment.

What’s the difference between Walter Nolan 2, 3 and 4?

All of the Walter Nolan Multi-Laser Procedures are a tailored course of treatments to rejuvenate the skin. The recommended WNML option for you will be determined by the needs of your skin and your rejuvenation goals.

  • The WNML 2 involves two treatments, one month apart.
  • The WNML 3 involves three treatments, one month apart.
  • The WNML 4 involves four treatments, one month apart.
