Our free 60-minute cosmetic consultation gives you the opportunity to discuss your skin concerns and goals with a senior cosmetic registered nurse, who will guide you through suitable treatment options and help you understand what may be right for you. Dr Marianne Nolan also offers cosmetic consults, which incur a fee – read about them here.
This consultation is completely free and comes with no obligation to proceed with any recommended treatments. However, time has been included in this consultation for some injectable treatments to be delivered, if they are recommended and you choose to proceed.
During your consult, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Discuss your skin concerns, such as ageing, wrinkles, pigmentation, redness, fullness, or loss of youthfulness.
- Learn about treatments including injectables, Rejuran, skin needling, dermal fillers, laser and light-based treatments.
- Receive a personalised plan for your skin type, concerns, goals and budget.
- Ask questions to feel fully informed about risks, outcomes, and what to expect from each treatment.
This is not a medical skin check. If anything concerning is identified, you may be offered a same-day review with our dermatologist, pending availability.
Please arrive at your consultation with no make-up or sunscreen on the areas you’d like to discuss. It is also recommended that you bring a written list of prior skin treatments, whether medical or cosmetic.

We recommend this consultation for anyone who is unsure what cosmetic treatment is best for them. Particularly those interested in injectables such as botox/dysport, Profhilo, Rejuran, skin needling, dermal fillers, radiance facial, laser genesis or chemical peels.
Treatments for acne, acne scars, self harm scars, birth marks or laser resurfacing are not recommended for this consultation, and will require a consultation with Dr Terence Poon (this will incur a fee).

Is this consultation free?
Yes! Our cosmetic consultations with a nurse are completely free. This is your opportunity to ask questions and receive personalised recommendations about which treatments might be right for you. After the consultation, it’s entirely up to you whether you choose to proceed with any treatments in a separate appointment.
How long is a cosmetic consultation with a nurse?
The consultation generally lasts between 60minutes. However, this includes time allocated for short treatments, if recommended and desired during your appointment.Longer procedures may be able to be performed on the day but this is not guaranteed.
What will happen if the nurse identifies something on my skin that is medically concerning?
If the nurse identifies something on your skin that appears medically concerning, you may be asked to see our dermatologist for a full skin check. This may be possible on the same day, depending on the dermatologist’s schedule. The standard dermatologist consult fee is $365, with a Medicare rebate of $21 if you do not have a referral ($75 with referral). Occasionally, the nurse may request a quick skin review with the dermatologist before certain treatments. This is part of their duty of care and does not mean that anything is wrong, and this quick review is free of charge.
Is this consult for tattoo removal or laser hair removal enquiries?
While you are welcome to raise questions about tattoo removal or laser hair removal during your cosmetic consult, these are typically handled in separate complimentary consultations.
Can I have a treatment on the same day as my consultation?
This consultation is designed to provide information only, and full treatments are not performed on the same day. However, some injectable treatments are possible within your consult hour, if that has been discussed and agreed upon by both your cosmetic nurse and you.
Otherwise, you are free to take the advice and recommendations away with you to decide which, if any, treatment is right for you.

Dr. Terence Poon is the medical director of Neutral Bay Laser & Dermatology Clinic. He is a dermatologist and laser specialist. He has trained extensively in Australia and internationally, in the laser-responsive cosmetic aspects of dermatology.
He undertook a fellowship with Dr Jim Walter, who pioneered the use of lasers in dermatology in Australia and who founded our clinic, which was the first full time laser dermatology clinic in Sydney.
Dr Marianne Nolan has been with the clinic for over two decades and is very experienced in all aspects of laser treatments and related cosmetic procedures. Her meticulous record of safety and competence has earned her a huge following of dedicated cosmetic skin care patients, who also enjoy warm, caring manner. She trained extensively with our founder, Dr James Walter, and has attended regular training programmes and conferences in Australia, Europe and the USA. Together with Dr Walter, she is co-developer of our bespoke rejuvenation treatments, the Walter Nolan Multi-Laser Procedures.
Dr Helena Torpinski has been with our clinic for nearly two decades. Her bright and lively manner continues to ensure she is popular with our patients. Helena works as a GP in Newtown when she is not at our clinic and this adds a great breadth of knowledge and understanding to her engagement with patients. She has expertise in all forms of laser and light-based treatments and has a commitment to ongoing education, training and regular conference attendance.
